Administrators can set- and edit user rights to files and folders in StreamBIM. Read and write access can be assigned to Groups in the project. By default the group @Project has read access to the root folder in StreamBIM, so unless you change these settings, all users in the project have read access to all uploaded files and documents.
Step by step
Access control is set and managed in the documents folder view and is visually available after label categories in the table. User rights follow the same concept as labels. I.e. user rights is inherited from parent folders so managing user rights is rather simple in StreamBIM.
TIP: If there is a lot of label categories in the project it can imply a lot of scrolling to the right to view access rights. The easiest way to minimize columns is to grab the "Read" column and drag to the left. This will minimize all columns as you pull it to the left.
Setting user rights
When groups have been defined in the project you can assign read or write access to folders. Access settings is available from "right click" menu or the "Options menu". Select the folder, click Access settings and define which access level for each group. Non selected means that the group have no access (unless access have been granted on parent).
If you need to restrict read access in your project, the first thing you have to do is select the root folder and remove Remove read access for the group @project. All users in a StreamBIM project is an enforced member of this group.
Note: Since user rights is inherited from parent folders one cannot remove read/write access to a folder where the group has read/write access to a parent. Read access to root folder means that you will always have read access to all documents.
Example:
In the example below we have
- Added write access for the groups @General_Contractor to the root folder, hence all members of this group has read and write access to all files and folders in the project
- Added write access for the groups @Design to the folder "Drawings", hence all members of this group has read and write access to this folder and all files and folders under this level.
- Added the group @Sub_Contractor_Demolition a read only access to the folder "Blueprint". Members of this group can only see files in this folder.
If the group label is grey, this means that the access right is inherited. Orange group label means that this is the active setting on the specific folder and this is where you can edit this setting.
As a group member of @Sub_Contractor_Demolition, my folder view will with this setting look like this:
The same documents will be visible in other document views.
