This guide will walk you through setting up the Power BI Desktop Custom Connector with StreamBIM. Enhance your project management and data analysis in just a few steps. Let’s dive in and make your data work for you!
Note (updated):
Previously, we announced that Power BI queries created prior to September 20th, 2024, would stop functioning after December 6th, 2024. However, we are currently working on refining our new export method to ensure a seamless experience. Until we confirm a reliable solution, your existing queries will continue to function as usual. We will update you with a new timeline once it’s available.
To ensure your existing queries continue to work without interruption, refer to our guide on importing and re-exporting existing queries.
1. Enable Power BI on Your Project
To enable Power BI on your project, please send an email to support@rendra.io and we’ll get you set up.

Create a folder named “Power BI Desktop” and a sub-folder within it called “Custom Connectors.”
Place the extension file in the “Custom Connectors” sub-folder.

The few next steps, you’ll need to modify settings to allow the loading of the extension file, ensuring that your custom connector is recognized and functional.

6. Restart of Power BI is required after changes
7. Copy the StreamBIM query to your clipboard
StreamBIM offers multiple sources from which to copy queries, including the search function, capture table, checklist table, document overview table, and user list. This flexibility allows you to efficiently gather the data you need from various points within the platform.
8. Overview of all your Power BI exports within StreamBIM
Overview of all your Power BI Exports within StreamBIM, including details on who exported, the timestamp, and the content—whether it's search, checklist, document, user, or project information queries, along with descriptions for personal reference.

We are skipping this because the credentials, including the access token, are part of the query, and we'll be connecting to the data differently by entering our username and password in step 15.
19. Your data should appear like the screenshot below, then click "Close & Apply"
20. Future exports to Power BI
For future data exports to Power BI, you only need to follow steps 7, 9, 10, and 11 of this guide. For detailed guidance on these steps, please refer to the Project Exports guide.
