This Power BI template has been developed in response to user demand for a unified and visual overview of topics across projects in StreamBIM. The template provides insight into how teams manage and close issues, prioritize tasks, deliver within deadlines, and improve over time. It is particularly useful for project managers, construction managers, and other key stakeholders who need better control and oversight across multiple projects.
The report is based on data pulled directly from StreamBIM and presents a snapshot of the current status of all projects the user has access to. Through a range of visualizations, it enables you to analyze:
- the number of open and closed topics
- priority levels and their development over time
- which deliverables are on time or overdue
- how workflows are distributed across different phases
- accumulated value and efficiency over time
The purpose of this guide is to walk you through how to use the template step by step—from opening the file and connecting data.
Download the Power BI Template
You can download the Projects Data Dashboard from our download center by using this linkThis template is designed to connect to all the StreamBIM projects you have access to and gives you a ready-to-use dashboard.
1. Using the Power BI Template
Once you've downloaded and opened the Power BI template, follow these steps to connect your data and explore your project portfolio across StreamBIM.
1. Open the Power BI template
Open the file in Power BI Desktop. When prompted, log in or allow permissions if needed. The report is designed to load data for all projects you have access to.
2. Refresh the data
When the template opens, the data will automatically refresh. You’ll see a live snapshot of your own projects and topics.
3. Reset filters
If you want to start from a clean view, click the Reset button to clear all applied filters and return to the default dashboard view.
4. View the data source
At the top of the report, there is a link to the underlying data source:
https://app.streambim.com/projects-listClicki this link to inspect where the data comes from and how it’s structured across your accessible projects in StreamBIM.
⚠ Important: You must have the role of Customer Admin in StreamBIM to access the data source linked above.
Without this role, you won’t be able to see or connect to the project data.
If you're unsure about your access rights, please contact your StreamBIM system administrator.

2. Exporting Project Data from StreamBIM to Power BI
This step is not required in order to use the Power BI template provided. The template is already pre-configured to connect to and visualize data from StreamBIM for all your accessible projects.
However, if you want to build your own custom dashboard from scratch—without using the template—this is the place where you retrieve the dataset:
https://app.streambim.com/projects-list
From this page, you can export structured project data into Power BI. The export tool allows you to select the types of data you want to include in your custom report, such as:
- Projects
- Workflows
- Topics
- Checklists
After choosing your dataset, you can export it and either connect using the StreamBIM Connector or load it manually into Power BI.
⚠ Note: As mentioned earlier, you must have the Customer Admin role in StreamBIM to access this export interface. Contact your administrator if access is restricted.

3. Include Project Property
When exporting data, make sure to enable the "Include project property" option.
This ensures that key metadata—such as project name, status, location, or other custom fields—is included in the exported dataset. These fields are essential for filtering, grouping, and comparing data across multiple projects in Power BI.

4. StreamBIM Connector
After exporting the dataset, you have the option to use the StreamBIM Connector to connect your Power BI report directly to live data.
Using the connector allows for:
- automatic data refresh
- live updates from StreamBIM
- simplified data loading without manual file handling
This is recommended if you want to maintain a dynamic report that stays up to date with real-time project data.
